  An extra inning win usually gives one team a euphoric feeling and the other team a sour taste in their mouth. On Wednesday night the Silver Bay Mariners baseball team left Barnum with an 8-7 extra inning victory. While the Mariners drove out of town on a high note, the Bombers, who came oh so close, were left to wonder what could have been.

  The Barnum Bombers picked up a huge section win on Monday as the Bombers defeated the Eagles of East Central in Askov on Monday afternoon by a score of 16-2 in five innings. The Bombers, who will open play in Section 5 on Friday are looking to better their standings within section.

The complete results are in for the 2012 Hawk Invite held at Hermantown High School on Thursday.  The Host Hermantown boys team won with a team score of 173 points. Esko continued their dominance on the girls side, winning the event with 186 total team points.

  The Moose Lake-Willow River Boys and Esko girls track teams captured first place in their respective divisions at the Two Harbors Invitational in Two Harbors Tuesday. The Rebels captured the title with a fairly wide margin of almost 50 points while the Eskomos edged out the Two Harbors Agates girls track team by on seven points.

The Bombers, playing only their second game of the season due to field issues at Barnum, shut out the Jaguars after losing their first game of the season to Duluth Denfeld.

  The Barnum High School has lost its third coach this spring as long time volleyball coach Corina Newman turned in her letter or resignation last Thursday, April 19th. Newman joins the list of Barnum coaches needing to be replaced before next season begins. Long time girls basketball coach Randy Myhre retired and football coach Kevin Hayley resigned earlier this spring.

  The Barnum boys and girls golf teams are hitting the courses again this spring for the first time in over 20 years. The Bombers were originally scheduled to open their season on Tuesday April 19th in Mahtowa, but was cancelled, postponing the first meet until Thursday at Hinckley.
