Girls Hoops Teams Positioning For Section Seeding

  As the 2011-2012 regular season starts to wind down, several local high school girls basketball teams find themselves jockeying for position as the section seedings will be determined this week. The sections no longer go by a point system but by a QRF rating system, which is based upon strength of schedule similar to how College Football teams are ranked.

  One goal achieved and hopefully still more to come for the Hermantown Hawks boys hockey team. On Friday night the Hawks picked up a 4-0 shut-out victory over Hibbing/Chisholm to wrap up the first perfect 25-0 regular season in the history of the storied program.

  The Hermantown boys basketball team picked up a huge sectional win on Saturday afternoon over the Chisago Lakes Wildcats allowing the Hawks to hold on to their current fourth place standings in section 7AAA. The Hawks built up an early first half lead and went on to win by 10 points as the Hawks win at home 78-68.

  Minnesota's last unbeaten hockey team made sure that record would stay intact Tuesday night with a 7-0 trouncing of rival Duluth Denfeld last night at the Amsoil Arena in Duluth. The Hermantown Hawks used scoring from six different players to take the road win and push their record to 22-0.

  Hermantown Junior Megan Danelski captured the state girls Alpine championship on Wednesday at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. Danelski, who had placed third in last year’s Event, had combined runs of 36:72 and 38:71 to finish in first place in the girls state alpine ski meet.
