Girls Hoops Teams Positioning For Section Seeding
Feb 20, 2012 As the 2011-2012 regular season starts to wind down, several local high school girls basketball teams find themselves jockeying for position as the section seedings will be determined this week. The sections no longer go by a point system but by a QRF rating system, which is based upon strength of schedule similar to how College Football teams are ranked. Read more
Rebels Win Third Straight
Feb 18, 2012 The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels picked up their third win a row Saturday afternoon as the Rebels knocked off Pine City in a Section 7AA match-up in Willow River by a score of 70-49. The Rebels, with the win improve their section record to 6-3 on the season as they will have a tough sectional battle on Tuesday. Read more
Koecher Gets 1000th Point In ML-WR Win
Feb 16, 2012 Caleb Koecher was sitting two points shy of 1000 points for his career and was anxious to get it out of the way in Thursday night’s game against Aitkin. That’s exactly what happened when the opening tip from Taylor Mattison went to Tony Adamczak who made a pass to Koecher for an easy layup and his 1000th point on Thursday night as the Rebels pick up the section win, 61-55. Rebels Start Quick, But Fall To Novas
Feb 1, 2012 The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels started fast Saturday afternoon by jumping out to a 3-1 lead after one period; but were unable to hold the lead as penalties ended up plaguing the Rebels in the second and third periods and the Minneapolis Novas came from behind to down the Rebels by a score of 7-4 Saturday afternoon at Moose Lake Ice Arena. Rebels Hold Off Pesky Bulldogs
Feb 3, 2012 CARLTON- On paper it looked as the Carlton Bulldogs were huge underdogs against the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels Friday night. When the Bulldogs top offensive player fouled out early in the second half, many thought the Rebels would blow away Carlton. But the Bulldogs held strong and battled until the end as the Rebels picked up the conference victory by a score of 62-48. Read more

Lindquist's Jumper Gives Esko 61-59 Win Over Moose Lake-Willow River
Jan 14, 2012 WILLOW RIVER - Jackson Lindquist has accomplished a lot in his time on the Esko boys basketball team including scoring his 1000th point earlier this year. One thing Lindquist had never done in his time on the varsity team was beat the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels. That all changed Saturday night in Willow River when he hit a jump shot with four seconds left in regulation to give the Eskomos a 61-59 win. Read more

Several Local Players Help Yellowjacket Women To Historic Win
Jan 5, 2012 For the Yellowjacket women's basketball team, the 2011-12 season has been all about steady progress, taking steps forward. On Wednesday afternoon at UW-Oshkosh, head coach Don Mulhern's team bypassed the steps entirely and moved forward with a leap. Four players scored in double figures and the balanced attack put up 37 points in each half, as the Yellowjackets made history with a 74-66 win at the Kolf Sports Center. Read more

Dec 20, 2011 WILLOW RIVER- Taylor Mattison who was speculated to be out of action until the first of the year made his first start since doctors gave him the ok to play last week. With Mattison back on the floor the Rebels looked and played like a poised team with a lot of confidence as the Rebels knocked off the Wrenshall Wrens in this Polar League contest 74-34 Tuesday night. Jan 17, 2012 Adri Jusczak pumped in 25 points and the Moose Lake-Willow River girls basketball team slipped by Eveleth-Gilbert 61-49 on Tuesday night. A big first half, along with Jusczak and her teammates play, helped to propel the Rebels to a 31-16 edge at intermission; a lead that would be too much for the Golden Bears to overcome. Read more
Barnum Girls Use Second Half Surge To Put Away Rebels
Jan 9, 2012 Both Barnum and Moose Lake-Willow River have been having good years in girls basketball. Through 13 games the Rebels were 10-3, while Barnum was 10-2 through 12 games. Dec 15, 2011 Moose Lake- With the Rebels and the Cardinals tied 28-28 at halftime of the girls Polar League matchup Thursday night in Moose Lake; the Rebels halftime motivation speech was one of inspiration. The Rebels came out in the second half and blew past the Cardinals as they scored 30 points in the first nine minutes of the second half en-route to a 65-48 win Thursday night at home. Read more

Rebels Come Up One Game Short Of A State Title
Nov 25, 2011 It is said that without a lot of expectations, there isn’t a lot of disappointment and the greater the expectations, the greater the disappointment. Such was the case with the Moose Lake-Willow River football team on Friday. The Rebels came within one game of the lofty goal of winning a state championship; but fell to Caledonia by a score of 27-0. And, although the teams great disappointments were evident, they handled it with the utmost of class and respect for their opponents and displayed what high school sports are, or should be all about. Prep Bowl Football Preview
Nov 24, 2011 The 2011 Prep Bowl will be conducted over two days, Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis.
