  DULUTH - The 12th annual Kernz & Co. all star soccer game were held on Monday night. The Boys area team beat the Duluth All-Stars by a score of 1-0, while the Duluth girls topped the Area girls team by a margin of 3-0.

  Just days after celebrating the Section 7a Championship and earning a trip to the state tournament, the Proctor boys soccer team learned the first stop on that trip will be #1 seed unbeaten Prairie Seeds Academy. PSA is a charter school in Brooklyn Park with a 9-12 enrollment of 121 and a total k-12 enrollment of 740. Although there are expansion plans, boys soccer is currently its only high school sport.

  DULUTH – In what can be described as putting an exclamation point on the best season in recent history, the Proctor boys soccer team captured the Section 7a crown by beating Grand Rapids 2-1 Thursday evening at Public Schools Stadium.

  It has often been said that fans are the “twelfth man” and can make quite a difference in a game. In today’s quarterfinal playoff game between Hermantown and CEC the “twelfth man” made quite a difference. Despite the fans from both schools being very enthusiastic, they weren’t the difference. Today the “twelfth man” was a ferocious north wind which played a part in the Hawks 3-2 victory over CEC.

  A clearing attempt in the first overtime by Proctor bounced off Cloquet-Esko-Carlton forward Sam Longseth and into the Rails goal giving the Lumberjacks a 2-1 extra time win in Lake Superior Conference soccer on Thursday night.

  PROCTOR - As the old saying goes, “if you want respect, you have to earn it.” Based on that criteria, the Proctor boys soccer team should have the respect of the entire area soon. The Rails are now an area best 9-0 after beating Duluth Marshall 1-0 at home on Thursday.

  Hunter Leon punched in a goal in the second overtime and the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys soccer team picked up an impressive early season victory over Superior on Monday afternoon by a 3-2 score.

  Hunter Leon knocked in a pair of goals, including the game-tying goal late in the second half to help lift the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys soccer team to a 2-2 tie against Twin Cities powerhouse Holy Angels Academy.

The Arrowhead United boys U-17 soccer team recently took second place at the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association State Tournament held in Coon Rapids. Arrowhead United is comprised of players from Hermantown, Proctor and Duluth Denfeld.

  MINNEAPOLIS - It took an extraordinary play from a couple of extraordinary players to advance the Hermantown Hawks to the boys soccer class A state championship game to be held Thursday afternoon.

  If there was any question as to whether the Hermantown Hawks soccer team deserved their #3 seeding in the state Class A soccer tournament those questions were answered with their 5-1 pounding of Mankato West. The Hawks were led by a spectacular effort from forward Charlie Comnick, who scored four goals in leading his team to victory.

Esko-Carlton girls and Hermantown boys and girls soccer programs gained state recognition when players from both teams were named to the 2009 Class A All-State team at the Minnesota State High School League’s annual pre-tournament banquet on Sunday.

  PROCTOR – Having 13 seniors on your team doesn’t guarantee a win, but it does help in not creating a panic as a tight game progresses. Despite having a couple of good scoring chances, Proctor did not score until three fourths of the way through their semi-final match against North Branch. In the end it was that stay calm demeanor which prevailed, giving the Rails a 1-0 victory and sending them back to the Section 7a title game for the first time since 2003.

  DULUTH - Win or lose, playing a larger Class AA team near the end of the season provides good experience going into the playoffs. That is what the CEC Lumberjacks got out of Tuesdays trip to Public Schools Stadium to take on Duluth East. Despite a great effort, in the end the Jacks fell by a score of 4-2.

The Hermantown Hawks continued their domination in boys soccer on Thursday with a 2-1 victory over the Cloquet Lumberjacks. It took a second half goal by Connor Kanuit to give his team the win, but the Hawks continue to show they are among the cream of the local soccer crop.

  A late goal by Charlie Comnick was just enough offense for the Hermantown Hawks on Thursday night. Playing in the Section 7A boys soccer final against North Branch, Comnick took a crossing pass and booted it past Vikings goalie Austin Holmes in the 69th minute giving the Hawks the title and a state tournament berth.

Thursday marked the start of Section 7A boys soccer playoff action with the CEC Lumberjacks getting a 3-0 win over visiting Eveleth-Gilbert. The Jacks netted all three of their goals in the first half and then cruised to the 3-0 victory over the #12 seeded Golden Bears.
