Rebels Come Up One Game Short Of A State Title

  It is said that without a lot of expectations, there isn’t a lot of disappointment and the greater the expectations, the greater the disappointment. Such was the case with the Moose Lake-Willow River football team on Friday. The Rebels came within one game of the lofty goal of winning a state championship; but fell to Caledonia by a score of 27-0. And, although the teams great disappointments were evident, they handled it with the utmost of class and respect for their opponents and displayed what high school sports are, or should be all about.

The 39th Annual Minnesota All-Star High School football game will be held on Saturday, June 30th at TCF Stadium in Minneapolis. The game pits a north team against a team of players from the southern part of the state. Two NSO area players Max Reinertsen and Frank Lesar have made the cut to play in the game this year.

St. Scholastica Defensive Coordinator Tom Parkevich has been named the head football coach at Iowa Wesleyan College; it was announced on Monday.  Parkevich, who has been the Saints' defensive coordinator since its inception, guided a CSS defense that led all of NCAA Division III in turnover margin and was second in all of NCAA College Football.

  An old sports line is it isn’t fair to ask for wins, you ask for effort and accept the results that effort produces. Such was the case with the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels on Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the Minnesota Class AA state tournament. Although they played hard throughout, the end result was a 21-6 loss to Eden Valley-Watkins.

Cromwell Cards Are State Champs!!

Minneapolis- In what would best be described as an unbelievable dream the Cromwell-Wright Cardinals overcame a 2-4 start to the regular season and ran the table as the Cardinals captured their fourth state 9-Man Football title Friday. The Cardinals knocked off the Burros of Lanesboro 49-42. Cromwell-Wright and their senior quarterback Jordan Suhonen set four and tied a fifth prep bowl record Friday in the seven point victory.
