  As the 2011-2012 regular season starts to wind down, several local high school girls basketball teams find themselves jockeying for position as the section seedings will be determined this week. The sections no longer go by a point system but by a QRF rating system, which is based upon strength of schedule similar to how College Football teams are ranked.

  BARNUM- When Barnum started out nailing their first five 3-point shots of the game and six of the first seven, the Bombers looked like they were going to blow away the Eskomos as they jumped out to a 22-10 early in the first half. A timeout by head coach Scott Antonutti and the Eskomos slowed down the tempo worked the ball inside to Savanna Trapp and the Eskomos slowly worked their way back into the ball game as they made a second half comeback to capture their second consecutive Polar league Title.

  Monday night saw the Barnum Bombers put themselves in perfect position for a rematch with the Esko Eskomos when the Bombers knocked off Hermantown and now will face the Eskomos Thursday night in Barnum for the Polar League Championship.

  The Cromwell Cardinals picked up their second win of the season over the Carlton Bulldogs by a score of 65-59 in a Polar league match-up at Carlton High School on Monday night. The Cardinals who beat the Bulldogs by 15 points in January hung on to win this one by six points.

  The Chisago Lakes Wildcats staged a huge comeback Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats came back from a 12 point deficit to pick up a 10 point, 67-57 section win at Hermantown High School.

  Barnum senior Katie Myhre has been a fixture on the hard court in Barnum for the past six seasons; she has had team success and individual success as a basketball player and she was recently chosen to play in the state girls all star game in April.

  It took everything Savanna Trapp could muster up to help her Esko girls basketball team take a 65-62 victory over Pequot Lakes on Monday night. Trapp, a 6'8" junior center, tossed in 40 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocked shots to lead the Eskomos to a hard-fought victory.

  MINNEAPOLIS - A statement that Katrina Newman made Saturday afternoon to Northland Sports Online, “It’s a dream come true,” captured the euphoria the Barnum Lady Bombers felt as they defeated the Wildcats of Goodhue to capture their first ever girls basketball championship. The Bombers took care of the Wildcats and went on to win by a score of 43-31.

  The Esko Eskomos rebounded Monday night with a 70-31 win over the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears after dropping a contest to Crosby-Ironton on Saturday afternoon. The Eskomos lost on Saturday to the Rangers by a score 70-31.

  The Grand Rapid Thunderhawks knocked off the Cloquet Lumberjacks for the second time this season by a score of 38-23 in a section 7AAA match-up. The first time these two teams met, it was a forty point win back in December 65-25.
