  The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team seemed like they were going to advance into the section finals Saturday as they had built a two goal lead after two periods, but it was Grand Rapids-Greenway who scored two third period goals to tie the game at 3-3 and sent the game into overtime where the Lightning came away with the 4-3 win in double overtime, ending the Lumberjacks season.

  The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team clinched the Lake Superior Conference title on Monday night with a 3-1 win over the Duluth Northern Stars at Amsoil Arena in Duluth. The game was part of a doubleheader called “Pink the Rink” which was a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society.

  What a difference a year makes. Last year the Eveleth Gilbert girls hockey team stormed to their first state tournament in state history. This year the Golden Bears have stumbled and struggled with a young lineup. Meanwhile, year in and year out the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls team has been a constant force in northern Minnesota hockey circles. On Tuesday night the Jacks beat E-G 3-0, but if it were not for the stellar goaltending of Golden Bears goalie Vicky Fossland things could have been a whole lot worse for the Golden Bears.
